Blogging etiquette

I have often said that there is no right way to blog, it takes a lot of time, but you have to find the right way to do it.

However, since I have gotten more organised I have been able to visit new blogs and do searches to try and find people.

 

Maybe its me but when a new person comes along to my blog and likes a post, maybe comments or if I am really lucky, I then go and visit their blog and say thank you, 99% of the time if they have followed me I will follow them.

but I have noticed that when I go and like a post I dont get the same reaction.

So my question is what do you do? I shall probably not change what I do, because it works for me, but I am now curious to see what other bloggers do when a new person likes, comments or follows you

    I go check out their page and if I like it I follow them. Read some of their posts and comment and like on some of their posts. It’s a great way for me to see what others are doing. Don’t change. Be authentic and don’t worry about it.

    I follow the people who follow me, and I try to read all of the blogs from people who actively engage in my blog. I don’t always check out the blogs of people who like one post, but I do try. I try to reply to everyone who posts on my blog within a day. I like the community of WordPress so I try to engage in that community as much as time allows.

    I do the same… I feel like most of my followers have come from me visiting people and engaging with others’ blogs, who then return the action to me… I have only had one or two people where they have visited my blog first. i’m not sure why that it – either I am doing something wrong in terms of cultivating interest on WordPress, or it’s just that I haven’t been going very long. I must say that most people I have engaged with have engaged with me to a greater or lesser extent – though not all.

      I actually have found it the other way round and most of my readers have found me, although I am hoping to change that now I am more organised. I saw a massive increase in views when I started using tags correctly

        This is interesting. I’m not sure I know what the ‘correct’ use of tags is!

        Danny over at dream big and Jason over at harsh reality both explain them really well, but the basic of it, is use no more than 13 this is for both tags and catagory. Say if you were blogging about your dinner. the tags you could use might be Tea, dinner, lunch. And get a few different ones out. Also its reccommend to use your blog name so normally my first two tags are itsgoodtobecrazysometimes and my crazy life. Hope that helps

    I may follow but it depends on the blog. 95% of the time I follow but not always.

    Sometimes I get likes and/or follows from people who blog about food or body-building. I don’t normally reciprocate those follows or likes because those things don’t match up with my interests.

    However, if you’re a writer or artist, I’ll normally follow you.

    I do what you do… 99% of the time, I follow their blog. And when someone likes a post of mine and I don’t recognize their name, I check to see if I’m following. If not, I look at their site and usually follow.

    I was told by a blog who has quite a goodly number of followers to just, when visiting a blog, click on follow, and it is likely that they will visit, so if they like your blog, then they will follow. I have not implemented this strategy yet, but I would also suggest (haven’t done this yet), find some knucklehead who has a long line of Gravatars showing as followers below a post (you know the little pictures, rectangles), do a split screen (duplicating that), click on them one at a time, go to their site, click follow, randomly. Bump them off one at a time, and start the whole process again with another empty headed blog that has hundreds of followers. People do don’t discriminate (good blog, poor blog) you’re just there, they trip over you. They want followers too. I know the process I describe you will find a way to work it out yourself.

    I like, follow and comment on a lot of blogs but I never have thanked them for following me. I just continue to LIKE the things they post 90% of the time. To me if someone follows me and I follow them back that is like a thank you. I think it means a lot more just to comment on a post.

    Sometimes I end up following, sometimes I don’t, it depends on their blog. Mostly it’s just how I feel at the moment. lol

    it depends on whether or not it’s something I’d be interested in following. If it’s a blog about fashion and makeup, I probably wouldn’t follow (being a male and all). But I still try to respond to all comments, even if it’s simply pressing the “like” button.

    Given time, health ect, if people follow me I try to comment and follow them, not always on all posts but certainly on the posts that are similar to mine or the subject matter , take care

    I’m always curious to see what the other person’s blog is like, what their interests are etc. So I do visit their page, maybe not right away but when I have the time. I like reading blogs a lot, so for me it’s a good way to discover new ones. I think you don’t have to comment or like another person’s blog, just because he did that for you. If the post doesn’t really appeal to you, then I think you shouldn’t ‘pretend’. However, most of the time I do find something so I end up liking or commenting xD. I think everyone can choose for themselves and it’s of course appreciated when you show interest in someone else as well, but I don’t want it to turn into a rule and have everyone ‘fish’ for those things. That makes it less valuable to me. And of course there are people who have 16000 followers, so I don’t think they have the time to visit and respond to everyone. But I think it’s good what you’re doing, it’s polite but most importantly: it works for you.

    I visit people’s about page and read a couple of their most recent posts of those who have liked a post of mine or have followed me. If I find them interesting or I like their posts then I will like their about page or their posts I’ve read

    Whoa, accidentally pressed send. And I will follow them. I am not in a big hurry to get millions of followers because I enjoy blogging and I go more for quality over quantity.

    I try various methods to get followers. Visiting blogs and leaving messages is the most successful and so I do it when I have time. I “like” comments in long comment threads that I come across unless the people are saying something offensive or rude. I also “like” posts, but without a comment, this is the least effective method for me.

    If someone follows my blog, I usually follow them back if they seem to have a genuine blog (i.e not one that’s just selling something, is filled with vile hate-speech or something like that). Sometimes people just turn up on my blog and follow me. I’ve no idea how they found me, but usually I then check out their blog and follow them back if they seem okay.

    In an ideal world, I’d visit all my followers and respond to all of their posts. I’d actually like to do that, but there just is no time, even if I did nothing else in my life. Instead, I try to regularly visit the posts of bloggers who comment most often on my site and also bloggers whose work I really admire.

    Of course, these categories are not mutually exclusive. Very often the reason I like people’s work in the first place is that we share common interests or sense of humor, which means they tend to be the people who comment on my blog anyway.
