The most depressing day of the year

I wonder how many of you have heard of it, it was all over my facebook on Monday. Its also known has blue Monday,  as far as I can find it has no scientific basis, it was devised by some holiday company, to probably sell more holidays and people have gone and run with it.

The reason why it was all over my facebook, was some people saying no wonder they are feeling down because its blue monday, or the flip side of the coin, that they found it insulting to people who suffer from depression.

I don’t know about anyone else but I checked my mood diary and I was pretty upbeat and surely from someone suffering depression that I would of been down.

Or maybe I just don’t believe in an advertising slogan and can’t be arsed to get worked up by it.

Tell me what you think

Never heard of it. My feed was filled with MLK Day posts. Which makes sense considering was that in the US. I couldn’t imagine a day set to feel more depressed. When I was depressed, I hardly noticed the days, let alone care. I certainly wouldn’t celebrate it. The only Blue Monday I know of is the band.

    • MIND in the UK are trying to start something to get rid of the term, for that exact reason, they feel it is trivilasing depression

I can understand that. Depression isn’t a state of mind, it is an illness. It is not sadness, and I think that people often confuse the two. When I was depressed, I was only sad at the beginning, after than I just didn’t feel.

      • Exactly I do think that people who have never have it, have an unusual idea what its about, maybe they should change the name because depression makes it sound like you do feel something, which is why when I feel down, I know its not the worse I have ever been because I am still feeling something

Blue Monday is a song by New Order. The most depressing days of the year are Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day, my birthday, and any public holiday.
