I am sure a lot of you know my cat Gizmo, for those of you who don’t this is him
On the 15th March (so tuesday) he went missing, weirdly enough we had a cat called Jones, who was also ginger who went missing exactly the same time last year
(This is Jones, easy for some to get confused)
I was worried, Gizmo, is one of those cats that follows my son to school, will come with the dog for a walk and generally always there 5 minutes before meal time. But Giz, came in at around 10.15pm miowing, about what I thought was his dinner.
Turns out I was wrong, his right back leg was badly broken. When I say badly, it was the wrong way round. We hadn’t got insurance for Gizmo, instead we had been putting money aside instead.
Since it was so late, I had to take him to the emergency vets, that was just above £500.
Then on the 16th March, we picked him up and took him to our regular vet, who had to amutate the leg
Costing another £700, so yep now we are above the emergency fund, and we are a low income family, so I thought I would be cheeky and set up a go fund me account for Giz.
https://www.gofundme.com/g6u63ehw
If you can afford it and would like to give something I would appreciate and send cookies, I am assuming we are going to have to cover the bulk of it, but anything will help.
So yep that is why I wasn’t around yesterday, anxiety was extreme, but he is home now, very vocal which is a relief, and I am so thankful he made his way home, if he had gone missing my son would of been devestated and for those who say I should of put him down, one you probably never owned an animal. Two you never had a toddler who loved his cat and three there was no way I was putting down what seemed to be a healthy animal. I don’t know how he is going to cope on 3 legs, but the rest of him was still healthy.
What the meaning it’s good to be crazy sometimes ,,?

Just glad he did, although he is being very vocal about being locked in the cage. Apparently we need to do this for 10 days I don’t think I am going to last another day let alone 7

Poor baby. I hope that he adjusts quick. How does go fund me work?

You can basically say how much you want to pay and then put in credit or debit card details. I would however check small print since I know some countries such as the UAE charge for money going out the country

Fingers crossed, we have already received over £200 which has taken a weight off my shoulders. So any more is now a bonus

Very sorry to hear about this. I know you must be overwhelmed. It seems animals can adapt to an amazing number of special needs. I hope Gizmo recovers well and continues to give love and happiness to your family for many more years. My cats Misty and Frisky send their love from the USA.

Any exposure is never a bad thing and even if it just makes people think how expensive it can be, especially if the pet comes in injured during the night. I certainly never thought it would come to this amount.

My tom cat gets these fleshy tumors not cancer but need removed. It’s $350 or about £200 each time. He’s 14 and arthritic in the hips but healthy enough to play with three girls. It’s a lot of money in pets. His sister is asthmatic and she’s a hundred bucks a month.

I had my old cat Sam for a good 9 years and paid insurance on him all that time and not once did I have to take him to the vets, this time I thought I am not doing it and this has happened

We can not afford insurance on four cats. So you hope they stay healthy. And we keep they inside unless supervised. They don’t know what is like to run free, so they behave most of the time. I have racoons, coyotes, and foxes in wis behind the house too

we only really have foxes, and even then not often, but we have made the decision for Gizmo to become an indoor cat and Sheldon to have to come in at night, he is not happy about the decision judging from the banging of the cat flap at 5am this morning

It’s the jumping in bed to tell you the cat flap is closed. And the vocal explanation that counts. 😉

Giz is stuck in a cage and was very vocal about his dislike at 5.30am just after Sheldon stopped his attack on the cat flap. Almost as though they are working together

I have three girls. They work together when it comes to food or going out. Other then that it’s girl on girl crime. Fur leaving traces of bad kitty attacks

My two fight over the mice they bring in. Giz will bully both Sheldon and the dog for their food if we let him.
Probably why he thought he could take on a car

Tommi, the 14 year old queen, will run off racoons or other animals. She’s about 4 kilos of furry. So maybe Gizmo knows he’s done it before
LikeLiked by 1 person
she’s brave, I wouldn’t run off a racoon
LikeLiked by 1 person
We generally keep her away because one day the racoon isn’t going to leave. The racoons are some what tame. They are only aggressive when they have babies with them.

I was glad to read on your most recent entry that he is doing so much better. (I’m catching up on my reading.) I’m sorry he was hurt and that your family had to go through this. I understand completely your wanting to get him treated and healed rather than euthanizing him. He’s a part of the family after all. I’m just really glad he’s doing well and is recovering, for all of you.

So sad to hear about kitty Gizmo! He is so cute! Glad to hear the surgery went well, and he is perking up. I know vet bills are so expensive, as we’ve had to pay for our pets over the years. We only have the 2 kitties left here now. Wish I could help, but we are on SS, but will send healing energy for Gizmo, and good wishes to feel better.

Oh my goodness! Poor thing. I can’t believe he was able to make his way home. I hope he adjusts quickly and starts feeling better soon. I’m not a cat person but I don’t have to be to understand that he is a member of your family and there’s no way you could put him down over a missing limb. As long as he is otherwise healthy, he’ll recover and I’m sure he’ll be us usual self in no time. Wishing you the best!

I hope it might help you in some way. Sorry I didn’t read it sooner. Your posts don’t seem to show up in my reader.
Can’t believe people told you to just euthanize him, just get rid of him.. Nowadays, you would think people would be more compassionate towards animals and nature. We don’t stand above other beings.. Really, you shouldn’t take an animal if you dispose of them easily. Wonder what they would do with their child.

I was tempted to say lets chop off your arm and then see if you want to be put down. Instead I cried, that seemed to work as well.

As much as ways you can cook a dead mouse to perfection and appropriately enjoy eating it to show necessary gratitude for such an elegant delicacy
