Its my partners birthday tomorrow. The poor sod has to put up with so much but nothing compared to what I make him do every year on his birthday.
You see I started the elf on the shelf tradition, I regret it now, but at the time it seemed fun. He arrives on the 1st December with the Christmas decorations, which means that on the 30th November, we have to put them up after my son has gone to sleep.
Which just happens to be his birthday. I did think of changing it, but my son is now so excited about the damn elf coming and his magic putting up the tree, that I don’t have the heart, either way someone is going to be upset and well so far every year its my partner.
Lets take a minute to just think about the poor sod and how for how the last 4 years he has had to do this and for how he will probably have to do this for the next 3 at least.
We made it so that decorating the tree on the 1st brings the elves back. They see the lights of our tree and know it’s time to return. This will be our 5th year with them! (I secretly-not-secretly love them)

OOOOHHH, I might try that next year, I would do it this year but my son is already so excited about waking up to the Christmas decorations

🙂 Next year just tell him that you’ll set the decorations up for the elves and surprise them when they arrive. Maybe they’ll bring him new Christmas Pajamas if he helps! (ours always bring PJs with them)

PJs are good, although I can bet my last £1 that he would trade lego over clothes

That would be sure bet 😀

A big dram, but not too big otherwise he might fall off the ladder

Ha! That’s funny. The things us dads have to do. The struggle is real. 😃😃

He claims to hate the Elf, but I know he really loves it

We still do Elfie at our house, even though the boys no longer believe. We have a pretty good time setting him up. 😃

I want him to be a bit older, so I can do some slightly more adult things, like the elf drinking a bottle of wine, or sat on the phone was a mastercard. But then the other side of me, is like this phase is such a short one and I should be enjoying it

Oh, absolutely you should enjoy it while you have him little, and still believing in the magic. Treasure it. Cherish it. You’ll miss it when it’s gone. I promise you that. 😊

Our girls are grown, so no little ones here. My grandson loves his ‘Frank” elf every year. To tell the truth, I want one for myself! The mister would think it silly though. haha! 🙂
