Things I learned:
My German isn’t half as good as I thought it was (*enter frantic texting with “my” Germanz to explain words, then explain the explanation*).
Google Translate is not helping

Google translate really didn’t help, I sent it over the a German speaking friend and got them to translate it for me and send it back.

Hooray for having native speakers on hand!
I loved the “Omchen” word- it was a “duh!” moment after Max explained (I knew “Oma” and that “chen” is a diminutive but couldn’t make the connection at first).
