Working over the phone, the best advice I got was to always smile while I’m talking to my customers, because people can hear the difference… It was hard to do at the beginning (some days, you just don’t feel like smiling, right?) but after over 20 years spent in different calling centers, it has become natural.

It does work, but you look silly, when you are having a bad day, and aren’t all that cheerful between calls….

I think its easier to do on the phone then face to face. If I am in a bad mood I can’t fake it face to face

I agree, I don’t think I would do ”face to face”… not after over 20 years of talking to people over the phone!

It is much easier to switch from face to face to telephone than the other way round.

To change careers after seeing how miserable I was in the previous career.

Sure glad I did. I was still young and child-free at the time, so it was a bit easier to do. Not much chance I’d do it at 50, I’m afraid. 😃
