Christmas Day

I feel it was a success, Monkey got up very early to find all his presents from Santa. I am not sure how everyone else does their present opening, but when I was younger, we use to open Santa’s presents, then play with those till lunch, then after lunch we would do the presents under the tree from family.

Both my partner and Monkey didn’t like this idea, they feel all presents should be opened as soon as possible. Which is what we did.

Monkey got up really really early and I heard him make himself breakfast while chatting happily to himself about his presents. I think he was making himself breakfast, so he would have enough energy to get through the first hour or so, as it might be exhausting work opening everything.

I knew two things about his presents, one Santa had not bought him any lego, myself and my partner had. So he was going to be a few hours building that.

While he was doing that, I started cooking, I was feeling fairly chuffed that I had done all the prep work on Christmas Eve.

I won’t bore you with everything I did, but we started off with Prawn Cocktail (my partner requested this)

About an hour later, so 3 hours all in all lunch was ready, we did eat fairy late, so we could just graze in the evening, but I also knew I had so much, we wouldn’t have to eat again till Febuary

This is Monkey’s fav veg dish and really simple cook peas, cook bacon add them together. I think its just because he really loves bacon

This year I added breadcrumbs to my cauliflower cheese and it went down really well, so am going to do that again, this is also a dish the dog can have for his Christmas lunch

Was a bit disappointed with the stuffing, I don’t usually do homemade during the year, but it was very flaky something to work on.

I am never very consistent in my roast veg, I can never get them crispy enough, or too crispy (read burnt) so these have come out alright

Last but not least the Duck, it was stuffed with oranges and rosemary and had nutmeg and various herbs on the skin. It was really nice, so nice infact when we binned the carcas, I found one of the cats in the bin trying to get to it.

This is how it looked altogether. The gravy although took ages, wasn’t as nice as it has been in previous years, I think there was too much port in it.

The rest of the day was just playing with stuff, Monkey got a few board games, which I was forced to play, luckly I did win them, so no strops were had.

I hope you all had an amazing, if not very different day.
