Lets see what happens.

I haven’t really written much about my government really, because there is only so many times, you can call something shit.

However, today (Monday) should be interesting because they are voting on whether to take away the £20 a week that people on benefits were getting extra during the pandemic, the fact that we are in the middle of lockdown with no end in sight, more and more people are losing their jobs, that £20 while everyone is at home to be able to afford, broadband or the extra electricty or heating on for a wee bit longer, has become a lifeline for many.

Just to give you an idea of how the government have dealt with the poor and vulnerable during this pandemic. I give you my own personal example of having had my PIP taken away from me without an assessment and no back up plan from the government. Now, this is obviously not just happening to me but its one I can speak from on personal experience.

In the wider picture, you have school lunches. in the UK, children from low income families can get free school meals. In the first lockdown, everyone got vouchers for supermarkets. It is £15 for 5 days worth of food for your child.

Where it started going wrong for the government is when they started saying, oh but we shouldn’t be giving the parents vouchers, because they can’t be trusted to buy the children food with it, they will spend it on booze and fags and I believe one minister came out with the fact he knew people were swapping the vouchers for drugs.

After a campaign started by a younger footballer called Marcus Rashford, about continuing the voucher scheme during the summer holidays, the government continued with the scheme. This was a massive U turn for them, as most of the MPs voted against this.

Then, we were placed into lockdown for a third time and this time the government decided that parents were not to be trusted with supermarket vouchers and they would get food delivered to them instead. Fine saves a trip to the supermarket. The problem is, this is what was being delivered

The main problem is this is meant to be at least £15 worth of food, parents started costing it up and the majority of people found that this is a maximum of a fiver.

And I think probably what annoys people, is that this government voted against helping children that are starving in a country that is the 6th richest in the world, while having been subsidised £1.7 million in meals alone and this does not even account for expenses, which is going to be interesting to see.

This would be on top of their salary of £81,000, so basically this government is saying we can’t afford our food on our salary of £38 an hour but mavis who is on £8.21 an hour can afford to feed her kids.

I am looking forward to this vote, its going to be interesting to see whether they are going to stick to form and get rid of it, or if they know its going to be a fucking nightmare if they do and they will have to do a U turn in a few weeks.
