Where in the World: Chile

I feel really bad about my South American map, but particularly forgetting Chile, so I am going to concentrate on that one for this time.

Lets see what we know about it

  1. It is bordered by Puru and Bolivia on the North and Argentinia on the East and the Pacific Coast on the West
  2. It has the world’s largest swimming pool, length of 1,000 yards, an area of 20 acres and a maximum depth of 115-feet. It holds over 66 million gallons of crystal clear seawater
  3. It also has the driest place on Earth The Atacama Desert, some parts have never seen rain and it is probably the oldest desert as well
  4. It also has some of the most volvanos in the world at a count of over 1300, they are also some of the largest, 3 of the most watched are Cerro Arul, Cerro Hudson, and Villarrica
  5. It seems to be a country of records as it also has the oldest mummy, one of the Chinchorro mummies from 5050BC
  6. Lets not forget Easter Island or the fact you can see penguins here
  7. There are 9 major indigenous groups in Chile, however Chile is the only country in Latin America which does not recognise its indigenous people in the constitution. Those 9 groups are Mapuche, Aymara, Atacameño, Diaguita, Rapanui, Colla, Kawésqar, Quechua and Yagan
  8. It is home to The Andean condors which are the biggest flying birds
  9. The origin of the name Chile might come from the indigenous Mapuche word “chili” meaning where the land ends
  10. The national dance is the Cueca dance

There we go, lets hope I never forget Chile again

Next week is central America, want to join in? You can find the map and rules here

  1. Good penance post 😉 I just realized I mentioned Chile in my weekend share post – the Chilean animal one – and you’re the puma. I think I’ll just give you a break, Monkey’s still home due to covid in the school group? You’re probably quite busy!
