Where in the World: Dominican Republic

When I did North America, the only country I missed was the Dominican Republic, so lets see what we can find out about this country

  1. You can defy gravity in the Dominican Republic, there is a a town called Polo.  If you stop your car in neutral gear downhill, your car will roll up, its an optical illusion but lets ignore that 😉
  2. The Dominican Republic has two unique stones found no where else in the world Dominican Amber and Larimar
  3. You can find Giant Humpback Whales here during the winter months
  4. 25% of Dominican Republic land and shoreline are preserved as national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries
  5. The Dominican Republic is the only flag in the world with a bible on it
  6. Mama Juana is a drink unique to The Dominican Republic. It’s made from rum, red wine, honey, tree bark, and herbs.
  7. Its main language is Spanish while its neighbour Haiti speaks French
  8. It is illegal to kiss in front of the police.
  9. The country’s national bird is the Palmchat and totally unique to the Dominican Republic
  10. Traditional music are the merengue and bachata
