Where in the World: Greenland

I got the whole of Northern America right, so I picked the country which hasn’t visited me before, that is Greenland, it seems fairly tough to get this country, but I am going to give it a go, lets see what I can learn about it

  1. Greenland is the world’s largest island, located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. It is an autonomous territory within the Danish Realm
  2. The name Greenland, means Land of People
  3. The largest town in Greenland is Qaqortoq, which has had people live in it for over 4000 years
  4. The sun does not set here from May 25th to July 25th
  5. Rumour says that when Eric the Red got exiled there in the 900s, he called it Greenland to encourage more settlers, think about it as a medievel scam
  6. You can only get to Greenland from Denmark or Iceland and then don’t be expected to drive, there are no roads transport here is boats or air, or sled
  7. Its three times the size of Texas, with a population the size of Port Orange Florida
  8. Want to try something a bit unusual? The national dish suaasat, is a meat based dish containing either seal, reindeer, whale or seabird and cooked with onions, bay leaves and other aromatic ingredients
  9. 88% of the population are Kalaallit (or Inuit) the rest are mainly from Danish desent
  10. Tradional music are drum dances with singing, please enjoy

I hope you enjoyed this post and learnt something about this country, if you are from there please say Aluu.

    Awesome!!!

In 2023, we are booked to take a cruise to Newfoundland and Reykjavik Iceland amongst other places. We’re not stopping in Greenland, but we are passing by, lol.

Can’t wait to see this part of the world. Really excited to see (hopefully) the Aurora Borealis.
