Where in the World: Iran

I am sure we have all heard of Iran in one way or another, but how much do we know about this country?

  1. Iran is boared by Armenia and Azerbaijan in the northwest, The Caspian Sea to the north, Turkmenistan to the northeast, Afghanstan to the east, Pakistan to the southeast, The Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the south and Turkey and Iraq to the west.
  2. Iranian’s use their own calandar, it is a solar calendar
  3. The weekend is on a Thursday and Friday
  4. Persian Carpets are the second largest export in Iran (after oil) but they are never pefect, weavers often make one mistake to symbolise the belief only God is perfect
  5. The internet is censored here, which explains why I have never had a visit from anyone in Iran
  6. Going back more than 2500 Persian literture is amongst the oldest written texts
  7. Despite a large amount of barriers 65% of university students are women
  8. Alcohol is prohibited in Iran, however this does not stop some people drinking it, the only way to do this is to make your own, Aragh sagi is the moonshine. Normally at 50% proof
  9. Blowing your nose in public and giving a thumbs up are both the height of rudness
