As always when I have to go out of my nice warm flat over the last two weeks, its because I need electricity or gas. This time it was electicity. I had to take Monkey with me, as I don’t think he is sensible to be left alone for an hour yet, soon, after this trip, very very soon.
An hour and a half we were in the queue to get electicity, I am not sure how many of you have spent an hour and a half in a queue with a 9 year old, but when there is not something fun about to happen at the end of that queue, it starts to become hell fairly quickly.
We did it, but I am not taking him again, even if it means we might have to spend time sitting in the darkness till my partner gets home with electricty.
Wait? What? You have to go line up to buy electricity and then bring it home? How do you carry the electricity? In a bag? Or a big battery? So many questions. Now my creative mind is churning with ideas.

I was literally thinking the same thing! Bring an Amazon box to carry the electricity home 😂

Its a key, you put money into to make the meter work, basically, so we pay upfront for the electicity we use.
It drives me nuts, but it was the way it was designed when the building was built

You have basically a parking meter for electricity?

Yep, basically but where you put the money in for the parking meter is a 20 minute walk and an hour and a half queuing

Is the meter only open certain hours, or is it one of those things youo can sneak down at like midnigiht and put the money in?

Its only opem 9-5, so if you dont get it in time, you dont get your electric

That seems like an odd way of doing it. If you pre pay and use more, you’re kinda just in the dark? What if you decide to do it on a day/time that’s slower? Can you go any day or does it have to be a certain day?

Its open Monday through Saturday apart from bank holidays, so you have to make sure you plan ahead, although most electric companies have a special thing in place, where they won’t cut you off it is a sunday or a bank holiday and normally they have a thing where after say 8pm, they won’t cut you off either but come 8am all your electric goes off. Its a stupid system and it costs you more because you can’t easily swap companies to get the better deals.
It drives me nuts and the next time I move, one of my main things is not going to be having one of these damn things

Bloody post office, Fucking British Gas, changing who they use for pre payment and sodding landlord for dodgy electrics that means I cant get a smart meter without the whole block of flats agreeing
