Where in the World: Guyana

I thought I would higlight Guyana this week, as its country that hasn’t visited my blog and I know very little about it other than where it is

  1. Guyana is boarded by the Alantic Ocean to the north, Brazil to the south and southwest, Venezuela to the west and Suriname to the east.
  2. The highest peak is Mount Roraima, which inspired the mountain in the movie Up
  3. More than 75% of this country is covered with forests
  4. Guyana name comes from the indigenous word Guiana which means land of many waters, this is probably due to Kaieteur Falls which is 4 time higher than Niagara falls
  5. In recent years more women than men are going to university
  6. Its not all great here though, it has the second highest suicide rate in the world
  7. There are no railways in Guyana and maybe more surprising there is no road that links it with its neighbour Venezula
  8. Mauby is a famous drink available in the country its made from tree bark
  9. Conan Doyle’s The Lost World is based on on the landscape here
  10. The music here is as diverse as the people, enjoy
