Where in the World: Albania

I know a little about this country, but I am not sure how much of it is true, so I am about to find out

  1. Albania shares land boarders with Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east and Greece to the south.
  2. Their buses don’t have a timetable, they go when they are ready or full, regardless you still might prefer the bus, cars have only been here since about 1991
  3. A nod here means no and a shake to the head means yes
  4. Although one of the smaller country’s in Europe it does have more than 3250 species of flowers, around 30% of all flora in Europe
  5. It has had its fair share of dictators, Zog 1, was the ruler between 1928 to 1939 and subject to at least 55 assassiantion attempts
  6. Talking of leaders, Enver Hoxha was fearful of his enemies, which appears to be about everyone. He fell out with USSR, China, withdraw from the Warsaw Pact and was hostile to (what was then) Yugoslavia, due to this there are a large amount of bunkers all over the country
  7. Albanians refer to their country as Shqipëri ( a few thing I read said the majority of Albanians call it this)
  8. Raki is the national drink, try it with caution, from a bar you might be fine, but homebrewed one glass might knock you out
  9. in 1995 a law was passed requiring citizens to pay taxes on traffic lights, one of the oldest city’s in Albania, Shkodra staged a protest, why? They have no traffic lights
  10. Enjoy some traditional music from here
