I love Alaska, I want them to pay me to go live there and I am fairly certain that is possible, lets find out about my new home

- Alaska borders the Canadian province of British Columbia and the terrority of Yukon to the east and shares a maritime border with Russia’s Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, to the north is the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas of the Artic Ocean and the Pacific to the south and southwest.
- Alaska is the largest state in the US by some distance, it is bigger than the next three Texas, California and Montana together, to give you an idea of how big it is, It has more coastline than the rest of the US combined
- I think the important thing is why is Alaska in the US? The basic answer is because Russia, who owned it at the time, didn’t want the UK to have it (and the UK owned Canada at the time) At the time Alaska was considered to be an undefendable albatross around Russia’s neck, Gold, oil and other minerals, were not yet discovered. So it was a case of we dont want it but we dont want our enemy to have it either.
- It is thought people have been in Alaska for the last 13,000 years, they might have walked or sailed. Indigenous people that still live here include Inuit, Tlingit, Haida, Aleuts, Athabascans and Yup’ik
- Alaska’s capital of Junea is the only capital in the US that you cant get to on road, only sea or air
- In Alaska’s northern most community, Barrow, the sun doesn’t set for two and a half months
- There are over 3 million lakes and 3174 named mountains in Alaska, one is called Mount Benson, named after a 13 year old boy, Benny Benson, who desgined the State’s flag
- Alaska does have a few things in common with Hawaii but the most surprising is they both have the same all time highest temperature of 100 degrees
- There are some fun rules here, its illegal to wake a bear and take its photo and due to a misunderstanding it is also illegal to push a moose out of a plane.
- This is a traditional dance, but it doesn’t say from which tribe

I love Alaska, and although it gets very cold there in the winter, the summer months are gorgeous and warm. I have been to visit twice and loved it both times. Thanks for the dance video.

Those are some interesting facts, I had no idea Russia didn’t want us to have it – but it makes sense lol

It does, doesn’t it, it was the first fact I double checked, if Canada had not belonged to us at that point, they probably would have sold it to them

That’s a sobering thought – what had we done to them?

To the Russians, I think we were either at war with them, or just finished fighting with them
