I have my ESA assessment this week, ESA is a disability benefit, yep a year on and we are starting again. Its lovely a thing to start the New Year with and just what I have been desperate to do.
I hope my sarcastic tone is coming across well in text.
Anyway I have been building up to attend this damn thing on Wednesday, when I have just reread the letter and its on Thursday, which means a whole 24 hours to stress over it.
I really dont want to go through with it, but we have decided to try and see what happens worst they are going to do is take it off me and put me on Jobseekers, this will mean I need to search for a job and I am more likely to be sanctioned (so money taken away at a moments notice) so as you can imagine, I really dont want to do it. Best case they leave me alone for another year or so, while I work on getting the drugs right and work on not being exhausted after doing the school run
Good luck.

I know things are different there than in America but I’ve undergone the dreaded review three times and I honestly think writing down the ways in which your disorders impact your ability to function ‘normally’ and achieve ‘stability’ counted as much as the doctor files. What employers want is someone stable and reliable and if you don’t feel you are there yet, don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself. Otherwise they are rubber stamping you into a position of worsening your condition and racking up bad references for disorders that are not your fault.
Just a thought. Good luck.

Thank you, here we have an assessment with a medical professional, but they might not be a professional in whatever your condition is, so for example someone suffering from mental health problems might be seen by a medical professional who deals with feet. You go in for a chat with them and take evidence. I write notes on everything I want to say, so for example the fact that while I can get further than I have done, it leaves me physically and emotionally exhausted and that is just doing the school run. I make sure we talk about everything I have written down

Last review, they sent me to a psychologist and I was petrified. They don’t know a thing about medication resistance or how hindering mental conditions are. But he sided with me so I guess just being honest worked in my favor.
I am freaking out for you, thinking your mental health may be left up to someone whose specialty is feet. Ermagod, how effed up is that? Can we claim athelete’s brain fungus? Not to make like, but seriously, sending a mental health client to a podiatrist or whatever makes as much sense as sending a woman to a urologist for gynological issues.
Again, good luck, the pegacorns and I are pulling for you.

You got it. I know the anxiety that goes on concerning those decisions all too well…my latest post I highlight what my fiance goes through regarding complications from playing professional football. We had to wait almost 3 yrs for a positive decision for SSDI in our country which is terribly hard to obtain despite him being in dire need of assistance from health concerns that have severely impacted and affect his life on a daily basis. I will be praying and thinking of you 🙏😊

Thank you, I appreciate it, I think our systems are fairly similar with the same sort of wait times

Ugh, this world has gone to treating healthcare like a priviledge and that’s discouraging for humanity’s sake. It’s a right of every human being to be healthy and do what we want to do in life. I’m always so thankful for my health. I pray you can get what you need 💜

I’m sorry.. but what is this assessment about?

So basically its a benefit, they give to people who are unable to work, its a wee bit complicated and its based on many different things, but the main bit is the group I get put into, if I remain in the support group they will leave me alone, if they put we me in the work group it means I can access things such as free courses and help with interviews and such like (this is what I want) or I might not get it in which case I would go onto a different benefit called jobseekers, with that I am required to look for work 20 hours a week (I think) and go in and chat to someone as to why I can’t get a job once a week. There is also a chance I might not get any, which means the government doesn’t pay anything towards me.

Do people in you country get money from the government if they are disabled?

I’m sorry I really have no idea about this. I’ll look up and get back to you. But yeah, on one hand we don’t have basic facilities for disabled people, on the other, some companies have been good enough to employ them.

Our facilities are being taken away bit by bit,

Why is that?

Not enough money apparently, but we do have enough money to blow other countries up

Good luck. Have you been to a PIP assessment before? If you need a few tips, let me know 🙂

Aye I had the misfortune of going through PIP being turned down and waiting nearly 2 years for a tribunal, in those 2 years I got cancelled on twice, but eventually got it for 18 months, that was this time last year, so I suspect I will have to start dealing with that fairly soon as well

That’s terrible. Do you know why you were turned down? Hopefully, you’ll get it permenantly this time. Caz x

That was PIP this is ESA which is different PIP I got turned down mainly because I was dressed nice, looked well and made eye contact. Not much about my mental health at all

Ah, PIP – yes you have to know how to turn up for the assessment lol. No smile, no eye contact etc…
